In particular situations arrhythmia can be rather dangerous and can lead even to a life-threatening condition. Yet, some people can have a benign form of arrhythmia which doesn’t lead to any serious heart problems when is diagnosed on a regular basis.

Congestive Heart Failure

Sometimes one’s heart can experience problems with pumping blood effectively. This can be in case when heart is too stiff or too weak. The most popular symptoms of this health condition are the shortness of breath as well as the leg swelling. If you are experiencing either of these symptoms, it will be reasonable for you to visit a doctor.

Cardiomyopathy

The heart can also cease working normally in case it is weakened because of being abnormally enlarged. In addition to it, the muscles of the heart can become rather thick or stiffened. As a result, the heart won’t pump blood effectively.

Myocarditis

The muscle of the heart can become inflamed because of various factors. One of the most popular cause of the heart muscle inflammation is a viral infection. Because of this fact, doctors do not recommend their patients to perform physical activities during the first two weeks after the recovery from any viral infection, for example, from flue. Even if you feel yourself very good after the treatment, remember that your heart muscles can be rather weak after the illness.

Pericarditis

Not only the muscles of your heart can become inflamed but also the lining tissues of this organ. One of the most frequent cause of this health condition is also a viral infection. Yet, pericarditis can be also caused by an autoimmune condition or a kidney failure.

Pericardial effusion

Another problem which is connected with the lining of the heart is pericardial effusion. This health condition is usually triggered by pericarditis and developed when fluid occurs between the heart lining.

Atrial Fibrillation

Arrhythmia, which has been discussed before, can be caused by atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation is a health condition in which abnormal electrical impulses occur in the atria. As a result, the heartbeat becomes irregular.

Pulmonary Embolism

It has already been said that blood can get clots which can travel to the heart causing serious problems. Yet, a blood clot can go in other direction getting into the lungs. Such a health condition is called pulmonary embolism.

Heart Murmur

One of the most frequently used equipment for diagnosing heart diseases is a stethoscope. It is used for listening to the sounds made by heart. Sometimes, the sound can be abnormal. This health condition is called heart murmur. Heart murmur doesn’t always mean that the heart is really ill. There are many situations in which heart murmur is benign. For example, many young  children experience this murmur because of the changes in their hearts which caused by the natural development of this organ. Nevertheless, it is crucial to check the condition of the heart once the murmur occurs as it can also be a symptom of a serious disease.

Heart Valve Disease

Of course, every part of the heart can become ill and heart valves aren’t an exception to this rule. Severe heart valve disease can lead to congestive heart failure.

Endocarditis

Some infections can attack the heart valves which can lead to the disease called endocarditis. When a person is suffering from this condition, the lining or valves of his or her heart become inflamed.

Mitral Valve Prolapse

Prolapse of the mitral valve is a condition in which it is slightly forced backward when the blood is passing.

Sudden Cardiac Death

Sudden cardiac death is also known as cardiac arrest. This is a state of death. Sudden cardiac death can take place in the situations in which the heart suddenly losses its function.

How the Heart Is Diagnosed?

It has already been said that a stethoscope is used for diagnosing heart murmur. Of course, it is not the sole equipment used in the modern cardiology which can help to identify many health conditions connected with heart. What other tests can be made by your doctor?

ECG (EKG)

ECG is electrocardiogram which is a special device tracing the electrical activity of the heart. For example, it becomes obvious whether a person is suffering from arrhythmia when ECG is made. Many other heart problems can be diagnosed with the help of this equipment.

Echocardiogram

If your doctor suspects that you may have problems with your heart valves or the pumping ability of your heart’s muscles, you may be asked to make echocardiogram. This is a special method using ultrasound in order to get the viewing of the work of your heart.

Cardiac Stress Test

Cardiac stress test is a very good method for identifying the disease of the coronary artery. In order to perform cardiac stress test, medicines or a treadmill can be used. Thus, the heart can be stimulated in such a way as it could show its near-maximum capacity.

Cardiac Catheterisation

Sometimes it is important to make X-ray images of heart, especially of the coronary arteries. This helps to find blockages. In order to make a X-ray image in this case, it is impossible to insert a special catheter into the femoral artery.
