Numbness in Hands and Feet: Causes and Treatment



Numbness, also known as Hypoesthesia, is a lack of sensation in some part of your body, but it usually happens in your hands or feet. It’s a phenomenon which occurs very often and probably all of us have experienced that at some point. In most cases it just happens as a result of aging.

Some people, however, get it more often and, despite the fact that it very rarely indicates something serious, when it happens frequently, it can cause a lot of discomfort. Therefore, find out what the symptoms and causes of numbness are and how to deal with it at home.

Remember, though, that if numbness happens regularly, it’s painful, and it doesn’t want to go away for a long time, it’s advised to consult a doctor.

What Are The Symptoms of Numbness

Numbness in your feet or hands is usually nothing serious. However, it can be very annoying as it’s a tingling feeling, which constantly makes you move your feet or hands. You should keep the cloth on your skin for about seven minutes. Soak the cloth several times in the water if it cools down too quickly.

Of course, you can also use a special heating pad, but a hot shower or bath will help a lot as well. Some people choose bottles with hot water or socks filled with rice which was previously warmed up in the microwave.

3. Massages

Another simple, yet effective way to get rid of annoying numbness in your feet or hands. When you massage your hands or feet, you stimulate blood circulation, and boost the nerves and muscles. As a result, the numbness in your feet or hands should go away just after the massage.

If you want your massage to be effective, do it with the use of warm coconut oil, olive or mustard oil. The last one is not so widely known, but it can be very effective due to its amazing rubefacient qualities.

Other essential oils which may turn out to be effective include rosemary oil or primrose oil. Don’t forget about wearing comfortable shoes, which are not too tight. If you often wear high-heeled shoes or shoes which pinch your toes, they might be the reason of your problem with strange sensations in your feet or toes. When it’s cold, remember to keep your hands and feet warm.
