What’s more, blueberries have strong antioxidant and antibacterial qualities, which can also be helpful in dealing with explosive diarrhea. You can simply eat a handful of fresh blueberries or prepare blueberry soup or tea.

7. Ginger

Ginger might be an effective solution to explosive diarrhea as well as it regulates the digestion process. It will soothe the pain and cramps that often accompany severe diarrhea. A good option is to simply add fresh ginger root to your meals. Optionally, you can use garlic powder, but it is not so effective as the fresh root.

Another option is preparing remedial ginger tea. Simply peel and slice a small piece of fresh ginger root and boil it in water for a few minutes. Strain it, add some honey to it and drink it twice a day or sip it throughout your day.

Probiotics are highly recommended during diarrhea as they provide your stomach with a good type of bacteria, such as Lactobacillus acidophilus or Lactobacillus bifidus, which may help you fight infections and support the digestion process.

Probiotics are especially helpful if your explosive diarrhea is caused by antibiotics and, in fact, most doctors prescribe probiotics along with antibiotics.

In most cases explosive diarrhea goes away on its own after just a few days. Drinking a lot of fluids and resting are usually just enough to recover. Additionally, you can purchase and take special over-the-counter solutions with electrolytes and minerals.

If you know that the cause of your explosive diarrhea is nothing serious, you can take over-the-counter anti-diarrheal medicines. Do not take them, however, if you have black or bloody stools and you have a fever. These are the signs of parasites or some bacterial infection and taking anti-diarrheal medicines may only make the matter worse.

Remember that you can give over-the-counter products with electrolytes and minerals to children to quickly replenish them. In fact, you will find plenty of such solutions for children in your pharmacy. However, you should not give anti-diarrheal medicines to children.

If your explosive diarrhea does not calm down after a few days, you should go to a doctor immediately. Visit him also when you suffer from any other worrying symptoms, such as fever or abdominal pain and cramps. He will ask you questions about your diarrhea, such as when it started, about the appearance of your stools, accompanying symptoms and if you have been taking any medicines recently.

In order to find the culprit of your severe diarrhea, your doctor will have to do a physical examination, but it usually will not give him the answer. Therefore, for sure, you will have to do some blood and stool tests.
