Introduction
The National Summit on Video Games, Youth and Public Policy brought together leading experts on video game effects research, ratings accuracy and effectiveness, public health and youth advocacy.
The Summit, an invitation only event held Oct. 21-22, 2006, was precedent-setting as the first-ever formal meeting to initiate a critical dialogue and to collectively examine issues of video games, youth and public policy. Although the participants may have had previous familiarity with each others' work, the Summit created a purposeful forum for experts to exchange ideas and concerns regarding violent and sexually explicit video games, media effects on youth, needs to educate the public, and current and proposed legislative policies pertaining to video games.
