More Parents Monitor Their Child’s Media Diet

While concern remains high about media violence and sexual content, 65% of parents say they “closely monitor” their own child’s media exposure. However, the new survey released by the Kaiser Family Foundation: Parents, Children & Media highlights some of the difficulties parents still face: confusing, multiple rating systems and low use of the V-chip.

Parent’s monitoring extends to the Internet where 73% of parents say they “know a lot” about what their kids do online: checking their children’s Instant Messaging (IM) “buddy lists” (87%), reviewing their children’s profiles on social networking sites (82%), and seeing what websites their children visit (76%) when they are online.

The National Institute on Media and the Family helps parents keep ahead of the technology curve.  Visit www.mediawise.org to get the tools and the know how to keep your child’s media diet Mediawise.
