Giving all children a Head Start on MediaWise
Partnering with Head Start

Media have a powerful impact on all families, regardless of their race, ethnicity or culture. The Institute is committed to making our information and materials accessible to everyone. The Institute has partnered with Head Start Parents In Community Action (PICA) to bring MediaWise training and resources to parents who are English language learners. PICA is a private, non-profit agency designated by the federal government to operate Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Hennepin County, Minnesota. PICA serves nearly 2,500 children and families and offers a variety of programs and services for children and families in addition to Head Start and Early Head Start.

Through the Institute’s partnership with Head Start we translated crucial elements of our MediaWise Education Program into both Somali and Spanish. Working with parents and professionals from various backgrounds, Institute staff gathered important feedback about ways the MediaWise message resonates within different cultural communities. The trainings were well received and the Institute gained important feedback about how to be effective in all communities, for all parents.
We measure our success
