Turn Old Paper into New Paper!

Things you’ll need:

Newspaper or other used paper, dried flowers, glitter, colored paper, and other fun decorating items. Cornstarch, hot water, scissors, 2 pieces of screen.

How to make it paper:

  • Cut the newspaper into small pieces and put them into a bowl of hot water.

  • Let it sit for about an hour or so until it looks like mushy cereal.

  • Add a few tablespoons of cornstarch and more hot water. Mix it up.

  • Place the screen on top of some extra newspapers so you don’t make a mess. Spoon the newspaper/starch mixture on top of a screen until you have a layer the size of the paper you want.

  • Make a “paper pulp sandwich” with the other screen to press all the water out of the mixture.

  • Take the top screen off and decorate by sprinkling flowers, glitter, or confetti on the paper.

  • Put the top screen back on and place heavy books on top to press it flat.

  • Take the books off and leave the new paper in a safe place overnight to dry.

  • When it is dry, peel the paper off the screen. Cut the edges to make a card or leave as is!
MAKING A BAKING SODA VOLCANO

Things you’ll need:
Baking soda, vinegar, detergent, warm water, red food coloring, play dough, soda bottle.

How to make a volcano
  • Use to play dough to make a volcano around the soda bottle so that the mouth of the bottle is in the center.

  • Fill the bottle almost full with warm water and add a few drops of red food coloring.

  • Drop about 5-7 drops of detergent into the bottle and 2 tablespoons of baking powder.

  • Slowly add vinegar to the bottle - get ready for a volcano eruption!
